Hi Martin,

At the minute GBP/USD is a volatile currency pair and EUR/USD is a more liquid market with less volatility. If and when Britain adopts the Euro what do you envisage the effect to be on the EUR/USD. Do you think it will inherit the volatility of the "cable"? The EUR/USD will obviously become more liquid and so do you think the spread will decrease to 1 pip?

Hi Mark,

I think Martin is away returning his mum to the Airport today.

The current volatility of the GBP is largely due to speculators taking advantage of the current economic disarray in the corridors of power. There would be no prospect of the GBP joining the Euro in the current conditions. When the GBP does eventually join I am sure that it will be done at a time of relative calm and not until we have a seen a Conservative government come in, clean up the financial mess, again, and be thrown out, again, by an ungrateful, amnesiac nation.

I wouldn't expect to see much of a ripple when it happens. As for predicting the spread, your guess is as good as anyone's.

Happy trading,
